ASSISTED LEARNING AT CHS

At Country House School, we recognise that some students may require additional academic support to thrive in their educational journey.

This support is provided through our assisted learning programme.

Assisted learning is designed for students who may have challenges such as ADHD, anxiety disorders, Asperger Syndrome, or other specific needs.

These students can still follow the standard curriculum (CAPS), but teaching methods are adapted to cater to their individual requirements.

In this programme, various accommodations and interventions are put in place to ensure the success of these students. For instance, assessments may be printed on off-yellow paper, font sizes may be enlarged, and students may apply for additional exam accommodations. Moreover, having a facilitator available can greatly benefit students by providing a sense of calm and security, minimising distractions, and assisting those with emotional or routine-related needs.

Tutoring services are too available in the afternoons.

Accommodations and interventions can be temporary or permanent, depending on the student’s needs, in order to provide the best possible opportunities for success.

It is important to note that assisted learning differs from remedial learning. Remedial learning involves a customised study path to specifically address a learner’s difficulties. Students in remedial learning programmes often remain in specialised schools throughout their academic careers. On the other hand, assisted learning within CHS allows students with diverse challenges to receive immediate support while still following the mainstream curriculum.

If a student is unable to do so, they may be better suited for a remedial learning setting.

While CHS aims to accommodate various learning needs, it’s important to recognise that students with high-intervention needs, such as severe physical disabilities, intellectual impairments, certain autism spectrums, or Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), may face challenges integrating into mainstream environments. In such cases, students with severe disabilities or impairments may find more suitable options within specialised remedial learning or schools that offer specific interventions.

If you believe that your child’s unique needs can be accommodated at CHS, we encourage you to reach out and explore the different opportunities available to support their educational journey.
